The Embarcadero walkway winds around to Seaport Village, a waterfront shopping and dining complex that re-creates the atmosphere of California in the 1800s. Visit the windjammer Star of India at the Maritime Museum and stop by at the naval open houses. A harbor cruise will yield a view of the skyline, naval installations, and ships. Tour boats take on passengers at the foot of Broadway at Harbor Drive.
The San Diego Zoo is one of the world's greatest. This tropical garden zoo has thousands of animals, many of them rare. The zoo's attractions include the bioclimatic habitats Polar Bear Plunge, Hippo Beach, Gorilla Tropics, Sun Bear Forest, and Tiger River, as well as two giant pandas from the People's Republic of China. The San Diego Wild Animal Park, operated by the Zoo at a location north of the city, offers a quiet monorail ride through its 2,100-acre preserve where endangered and rare animals roam freely.
