Santa Rosa, California
Santa Rosa is the largest city in Sonoma County. A blend of art and culture, food, wine and recreation, Santa Rosa has many attractions including the Luther Burbank home. Burbank is buried in the gardens at his home where he performed his great experiments with plants. His widow donated the home and gardens to Santa Rosa College for botanical studies and experiments. They are open to visitors. The Ripley Memorial Museum, in the Church of One Tree, has papers and mementos of Robert Ripley, the man who created "Ripley's Believe It or Not." On Glen Ellen Road, 14 miles southeast, is Jack London Historic State Park, containing the writer's ranch house and library, and the walls of the home he was building when it burned shortly before his death. A rough boulder without inscription marks his grave on a hill overlooking his beloved "Valley of the Moon."
