Washington : Mukilteo
Mukilteo, Washington
Mukilteo was the site of the 1855 Peace Treaty signed between Territorial Governor Isaac Stevens and 82 Indian Leaders representing 22 tribes. A monument commemorating the signing of the Peace Treaty is located at the Mukilteo Museum-Rosehill Community Center. Mukilteo became the county's first trading post and preceded Snohomish as the first county seat.
Today Mukilteo retains its friendly, old-fashioned hospitality and welcomes visitors with its spectacular setting by the sea. Visitors will enjoy exploring the delightful shops and quaint restaurants of this seaside town as well as the waterfront with its beautiful parks. Mukilteo State Park is a great place to fish, scuba, and fly kites. Don't miss the beautifully restored 1906 lighthouse, more than 100 years old. Although now fully automated, the lighthouse still sends its signal out to guide ships through Possession Sound.
The Mukilteo-Clinton ferry provides the opportunity for a great walk-on boat ride (approx 60 minutes round trip) or take your car for a full-day excursion to Whidbey Island, Deception Pass, or the Olympic Peninsula.
