The northern part of Alabama is full of hills and forests,
highlighted by the state's highest point at Cheaha State
park and the state's deepest gorge at DeSoto State park.

Also in this part of the state is the US Space and Rocket
Center located in Huntsville. Of course visitors can also
spend time in the state capital of Birmingham and view
the famous Vulcan statue.
Visitors can head south into the central plains and see

very first White House of the Confederacy was in Montgomery.

The ruins of the first state capital are nearby
as well as tributes to Booker T. Washington and George
White-sand beaches and numerous waterways are the scene
in southern Alabama. Mobile is home to one of the oldest
Mardi Gras celebrations in the country and Gulf State
Park offers miles of beaches and fine lodging. Bellingrath
Gardens is just south of Mobile and is one of the most
beautiful landscaped gardens in the country.
