From the Blue Ridge Mountains to the west
to the outer banks on the east. North Carolina is a state
of many contrasts. The main attractions are the mountains,
the beaches and the golf courses surrounding Pinehurst.
The climate is mild enough to attract visitors the whole
year round.
The Blue Ridge Parkway is an extremely
scenic drive, especially during the Fall when the trees
show the full spectrum of colors. Dozens and dozens of
hiking and nature trails are found in these mountains,
as well as the southern entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains.
The hiking trails range in difficulty from a gentle and
easy nature walk to a serious and long mountain hike on
the Appalachian Trail. The peaks are tall enough to offer
skiing during the winter months.

Travel east across the state to the coastal plains and
you can find the barrier islands and the Outer Banks.
This coastal region is extremely lively and busy during
the warmer parts of spring and fall and during the summer
months. The first English settlement in America, Manteo,
on Roanoke Island, can be found here. Additionally, there
are many beach communities that are quiet in the winter
and bustling during the summer.
