The rugged Pacific Coastline continues
up the coast from California into Oregon. This state is
home to the evergreen forests where visitors can explore
on foot or by vehicles. In contrast to the evergreen forests,
this state also has desertland and areas covered in volcanic
ash that make it look like a foreign planet.
Highway 101 runs mostly along the pacific
coast. In fact it is rare when the passenger in a car
can't see the Pacific Ocean. Cape Foulweather and Cape
Perpetua are two stops along US 101 where travelers can
stand on the high cliffs and look out at the ocean. Newport
is home to several ocean-oriented museums and aquariums
where visitors can get up close and personal with sea
life. The area is known for its fresh crabmeat, clam chowder,
shrimp and oyster stew.

There is year-round skiing on the snowcapped Mount Hood.
Also throughout the year there are festivals and fairs
in various parts of the state that should not be missed.
Some of the festivals focus on flowers of different types
while in other parts of the state rodeos and ranch fairs
are the festival of choice.
