Memphis lies on the Mississippi River and handles approximately
one-third of the nation's cotton. Also is this eastern
part of the state are numerous lakes and reservoirs where
visitors can enjoy all types of water activities. The
Natchez Trace State Park and Festival Island in Memphis
are two other places to stop in the eastern part of the
state.
Tennessee is full of history. There are civil war battlefields
to walk through and explore. Visitors can also follow
the Trail of Tears, which is the route 13,000 Cherokee
Indians followed after they were uprooted and forced to
Oklahoma. This trail starts near Chattanooga and extends
northwest into Kentucky.
